The Value of Quality Healthcare

AMA RECOMMENDED DOCTORS FEES

• The Australian Medical Association (AMA) has calculated the true costs of running a quality general practice. Each year, it provides updated recommendations on the fees doctors should charge for each Medicare item number. Our fees reflect these recommendations.

LACK OF GOVERNMENT FUNDING

• Successive governments have either frozen or only marginally increased healthcare costs over the years. This has left primary care services underfunded. Due to the most recent pandemic and price inflation we are really starting to see that the government funding for primary care is unsustainable and the only way to make, even a marginal profit, is for doctors to complete consultations by 6 minutes.

• A recent news article has even highlighted the fact, that with recent inlfation, tradesmen are earning more than bulk billing General Practitioners.

• Unfortunately, GPs will leave General Practice if they aren’t renumerated appropriately and the siutation will be similar to the United Kingdom where GP numbers have decreased year upon year since 2015 with GPs moral at all time lows.

• We actively encourage our patients to write to their local MP to ask that they petition the government to increase the medicare rebate.
